Rotation

Use the Rotation command to model rotation loads. Rotation loads are the inertial forces that result from the angular motion of a body about a fixed axis. When you use the Rotation command, you enter values for angular velocity and angular acceleration. The angular velocity is used to calculate the normal component of the inertial force. This force is commonly referred to as the centrifugal force. The angular acceleration is used to calculate the tangential component of the inertial force.

For Simcenter Nastran, Simcenter 3D Multiphysics, Simcenter 3D Thermal, LS-DYNA, Simcenter Samcef, or Abaqus, you can apply a rotation load to the entire model or a subset of the entire model. For MSC Nastran and ANSYS, a rotation load can only be applied to the entire model.

Rotation loads for LS-DYNA solutions

Use the Rotation command to apply angular velocity loads to your model. For example, you can use the Rotation command to define a constant or varying angular velocity to study the transient deformation of a spinning object. The options in the Rotation dialog box correspond to the variables for the LS-DYNA LOAD_BODY_GENERALIZED keyword.

You can use the Load curve options in the Rotation dialog box to vary the value of the rotation over time. You can also use specify options to define stress initialization by dynamic relaxation. Use the DEFINE_CURVE modeling object to include dynamic relaxation and define the properties for the load curve, such as the scaling factors for the abscissa and ordinate values. For example, you can choose to ramp the rotation load during the dynamic relaxation phase of the analysis and then hold the load constant until the solution converges.
