Flow Target Zone

Use a Flow Target Zone constraint in the target solution to restrict the pressure mapping algorithm when it searches for the nearest node or element. This constraint allows you to control the pressure mapping when the mesh or geometry between the source and target models is non-congruent, by forcing the software to choose the intended target element.

Example:

A typical application of a flow association and target zones is when both the source and target models have two closely spaced parallel 2D meshes and you want to map pressure results from the top source mesh (3) to the top target mesh (5) and results from the bottom source mesh (4) to the bottom target mesh (6).

(1) Source model(2) Target model(3) and (4) Source meshes with flow association zones(5) and (6) Target meshes with flow target zones

In the source model, you must first define a flow association zone, using a Flow Association Zone type of Mapping constraint. In the target model, you then define the flow target zone by doing the following:

  • Select the destination elements or nodes.

  • Associate the flow target zone to the corresponding flow association zone in the source model.

If you define a mapping target set in your target solution, the nodes and elements of your association target zone must be a subset of the mapping target set.

Target zones must not intersect each other.
