Including CAD points in a FEM file

When you create a new FEM file and associate it to the master part, you can use the Geometry Options dialog box to control which CAD geometry entities, such as coordinate systems, datum planes, or points that the software includes. If you select the Points check box in the Geometry Options dialog box, the software creates CAE points at the location of any existing CAD points. If a CAD point has a user-defined name or attributes, the associated CAE point inherits that name or attributes.

If a point in the CAD model is associated to an edge or face, the software associates the CAE point to the corresponding polygon edge or face in the FEM file.

  • If the location of a CAD point changes in the original model, then the software modifies the location of the CAE point when you update the FEM file.

  • If a CAD point is deleted from the original model, then the software deletes the CAE point when you update the FEM file.

Automatically creating mesh points

When you include CAD points in a FEM file, you can select the Create Mesh Points check box to have the software automatically create a mesh point at the location of each CAD point that is associated to an edge or face. When you create a mesh on the model, the software creates a node at each mesh point location.

  • If the location of a CAD point changes in the original model, then the software modifies the location of the mesh point when you update the FEM file.

  • If a CAD point is deleted from the original model, then the software deletes the mesh point when you update the FEM file.

For more information on mesh points, see Creating Mesh Points to force node locations.
