To save a layout state to an external file, you must export it. For more information, see Save a layout state to a layout state file.
Create a new, empty active work layout state
- Choose Results tab→Layout States group→New Layout State .
The new work layout state appears in the Work folder under the Layout States node in the Simulation Navigator and Post Processing Navigator. It contains a single empty viewport. The new layout state is the active layout state.
Duplicate a work layout state
For more information about duplicated work layout states, see Duplicating a layout state.
- In the Simulation Navigator or Post Processing Navigator, right-click a layout state and choose Duplicate.
The duplicated layout state appears in the Work folder under the Layout States node in the Simulation Navigator and Post Processing Navigator. It becomes the active layout state, and is displayed in the graphics window.
Save the current state as an archived layout state
Saves the current state of the software in the active work part (Simulation, FEM, or assembly FEM) as an archived layout state.
Make the Simulation, FEM, or assembly FEM file the displayed and work part.
Choose the visualization settings for pre-processing and/or post-processing models. For example, set up a Side by Side view with the meshed model in the left viewport and a post-processing stress contour plot in the right viewport.

By Element IDs — Saves the layout state based on the visibility settings of individual elements in the post view. For example, you hid elements using the Hide command and you want to retain that visibility.
