Laminate Composites > Creating a global layup
Working with global plies and global ply groups
You can manipulate global plies, modify the global ply sequence, and work with global ply groups by using right-click commands in the ply layup table in the Layup Modeler dialog box.
Global ply groups
Groups make it easier to manage patterns of plies that are repeated in your global ply layup. You create a group by selecting one ply or a set of consecutive plies in the ply table and executing the right-click Group command. The members of the group then appear indented in the ply layup table under an automatically generated name for the group.
You then have the option of creating one or more dynamically linked copies of the group you just created. You create a linked copy of the group by copying the original group and pasting it at the desired location in the ply layup table. This modifies the global ply stacking sequence.
Because the copy is dynamically linked, if you modify a ply definition or the sequence of plies in the original group, the same modification is replicated in the linked copy group. You cannot modify a linked group except by modifying the original group.
Note:
You cannot modify the contents of a linked copy group directly. The only way to modify it is to modify the original group.
You can break the link between a copied group and its original. The copied group then becomes an ordinary group.
To summarize right-click commands for global ply groups in the ply layup table:
To create a group, select the ply or plies, right-click and choose Group.
To break the connection between a linked copy group and the original group, select the linked copy node, right-click and choose Unlink.
To dissolve a group (other than a linked copy), select the group node, right-click and choose Ungroup.
Changing the stacking sequence of selected plies
You can change the sequence of a set of selected plies using right-click commands.
To reverse the order of any two plies, select the two plies, right-click and choose Flip Plies.
To reverse the order of three or more plies, select the plies, right-click and choose Reverse Plies.
