Verification solutions

Using the raw (not smoothed) topology optimization results, you can create a verification solution. This is a copy of the original solution that includes only the elements that were retained during the optimization process. By examining the results using the verification solution, you can better visualize which portions of the optimized model might be affected by displacement, stress, and other factors.

The verification solution is named Copy of [solution_name]. After you create the verification solution, you must edit it to set Maximum Number of Design Cycles (DESMAX) to 0. This ensures that when you solve the verification solution, the results include only one design cycle with no further optimization. In addition, when you solve the verification solution, you must clear the Model Setup Check check box on the Solve dialog box. Otherwise, errors will occur.

After you solve the verification solution, you can examine results in the optimized model.

Verification solution groups

When you create a verification solution, the software creates a group named OUTPUT GROUP and a group named Copy of [solution_name]. In the Simulation Navigator, if you select either item in the Groups folder, the graphics window highlights all of the elements that are included in that group. The verification solution references the Copy of [solution_name] group to limit the solution to the optimized portion of the original model.

Each time that you create a new verification solution, the content associated with OUTPUT GROUP is overwritten. However, the original Copy of [solution_name] group is retained, and a new group is created for the new verification solution. This lets you compare the elements associated with different verification solutions.
