Understanding the Snap Ends option
In the Stitch Edge dialog box, you can use the Snap Ends option to control how the software matches either the edge to the edge or the edge to the face.
Stitching edges to edges
When you stitch edges to edges, either manually or automatically, the Snap Ends option controls how the software stitches the ends of the source edge to the target edge.
If the distance between the end of the source edge and the end of the target edge is greater than the specified Snap Ends value, the software projects the end of the source edge directly onto the target edge.
If the distance between the end of the source edge and the end of the target edge is less than or equal to the specified Snap Ends value, the software snaps the end of the source edge onto the end of the target edge. This prevents the software from generating two nodes very close together at the end of an edge when you mesh your model.
If you stitch multiple source edges to a single edge, or stitch a single source edge to multiple target edges, the software always projects the end of the source edge directly onto the target edge.
Stitching edges to faces
When you stitch edges to faces, either manually or automatically, the Snap Ends option controls where the software stitches the source edge to the target face. With this method, the software projects the source edge along a natural vector and imprints it on the target face.
If the location of the imprinted edge is within the Snap Ends tolerance of a boundary edge on the target face, the software snaps the location of the imprinted edge to the boundary edge. In this case, the software does not create a scar edge on the face.
If the location of the imprinted edge is greater than the Snap Ends tolerance of a boundary edge on the target face, the software simply imprints the edge on the face. This results in a scar edge on the face.
The Snap Ends value that you specify is a global tolerance value. In some cases, when the software automatically stitches edges to faces, the software may adjust the specified Snap Ends value to obtain a more robust stitching solution. To view the Snap Ends value the software applied to a specific Stitch Edge definition, right-click the definition in the CAE Geom Recipes node in the Simulation Navigator and select Information.
