Importing Samcef groups to Pre/Post regions (Simcenter Samcef)

Regions and Samcef groups

In the Simcenter Samcef environment, you can define two types of regions:

  • Standard regions that are used for many Simcenter 3D entities such as loads or simulation objects. You can create node regions, element regions, element face regions, and element edge regions. These regions contain FEM entities and are always exported in the Simcenter Samcef input file.

  • Specific regions that can be used only in simulation objects. You can create surface regions and edge regions. These regions are exported only if they are used in a simulation object and if you export the simulation object.

For more information about exporting regions, see Export of regions (Simcenter Samcef).

Importing Simcenter Samcef groups

In the Options page of the File Import dialog box, you can select one of the following:

  • Create Regions Only—Import Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups as regions only. This is the default option.

  • Create Regions and Groups—Import Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups as regions and Simcenter 3D groups.

  • Custom—Customize the input

Importing Samcef groups: customizing the import

When you import Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups, either with the Create Regions Only or Create Regions And Groups option, the following Custom options are selected by default.

Option Description
Create Regions From Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups of nodes, elements, or element faces, you can create standard FEM-based regions: Node Region, Element Region, Element Face Region, and Element Edge Region.
Create Element Face Regions
Create Element Edge Regions
Create Surface Regions from 2D element selections From Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups of 2D elements, you can create Surface regions (Simcenter 3D Region type). You can easily identify them in the Simulation Navigator because of their _Surface suffix. From Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups of element faces, you can create Surface regions (Simcenter 3D Region type). You can easily identify them in the Simulation Navigator because of their _Surface suffix. From Simcenter Samcef .SEL groups of element faces, you can create Edge regions (Simcenter 3D Edge Region (BEDGE) type). You can easily identify them in the Simulation Navigator because of their _Edge suffix.
Create Surface Regions
Create Element Edge Regions

You can use these regions only in simulation objects.
