Design optimization results
After a SOL 200 Design Optimization solution has finished solving, you can view the results in the Post Processing Navigator, optimization spreadsheet, or Simcenter Nastran .f06 file.
Post Processing Navigator
The number of design cycle results that appear in the Post Processing Navigator is determined by the value for the NASPRT parameter. By default, results are reported for only Design Cycle 0 (the initial state of the model, before any optimization occurred) and the last design cycle (which is typically the optimal design). However, when you create or edit a design optimization solution, you can change the number of design cycle results to report. For example, you might want to report results for every fifth design cycle in addition to Design Cycle 0 and the last design cycle.
Using the Post Processing Navigator, you can examine results such as displacement or stress before any optimization changes were made, as well as the comparable results for any given design cycle. In the following example, the solution included five design cycles, and results were reported for only Design Cycle 0 and Design Cycle 5. (These results for each design cycle appear below the subcase node in the navigator.) The left side of the graphics window shows the elemental stress results for Design Cycle 0, while the right side shows the elemental stress results for Design Cycle 5.
Tip:
To change the results that appear in the Post Processing Navigator, you can modify the output requests for the solution.
Optimization spreadsheet
The optimization spreadsheet provides data for all design cycles, regardless of the value for the NASPRT parameter for the solution. By default, this spreadsheet contains design objective values, design variable values, and the values for up to the five most critical design constraints. However, you can change the number of critical design constraints included in the spreadsheet by changing the value for the MXCRTRSP parameter for the solution.
In addition to this data, the optimization spreadsheet also includes graphs that plot various values as a function of the design cycles.
For more information, see Optimization spreadsheet and Create an optimization spreadsheet.
Simcenter Nastran .f06 file
The Simcenter Nastran .f06 file contains extensive information about the model and the design optimization results. For example, the Design Optimization section of this file can include the stress response for each individual element. You can control the amount of information and the level of detail in the .f06 file by modifying the output-controlling parameters.
The .f06 file exists in the same folder as the Simulation file. You can open it with any text editor.
For more information about the .f06 file, see Design Optimization Output.
