Evaluate CSD responses
This procedure assumes you have created an event and applied excitations to your model. These steps describe how to evaluate the function response.
(Optional) Divide the graphics window into two viewports (for example, View→Layout→Upper and Lower), Change the Viewport Settings to User Selected Viewport (View→Layout→Layout Setting). Dividing your display allows you to view the model and your plotted response functions simultaneously.
In the Simulation Navigator, right-click your Event node and choose Evaluate Function Response→CSD.
In the Evaluate CSD Function Response dialog box, under Result, select the type of result to evaluate.Note: The available result types depend on the output requests you enabled in the Structural Output Request for the solution. For more information, see Define Response Dynamics result types.
In the graphics window, select the node or element to specify as the reference location. With a CSD function, you specify a reference location and a response location for the software to correlate. If you are evaluating displacement, velocity, or acceleration, these locations are nodes. For all other result types, these locations are elements.
Under Coordinate System, select the coordinate system for the reference location.Choose Material CS if your analysis includes the material features of the structure.Choose Element CS if your analysis focuses only on the elements of the structure. For information about coordinate systems used in response functions, see Response function coordinate systems.
Under Data Component, select the direction for the reference location, as axes of the coordinate system you specified. The data components you can choose depend on the Result Type. For more information about data components for various result types, see Result types and results and Vector and tensor components and invariants.
Under Beam Element, if you are evaluating stress or strain for beam elements, select the stress recovery point on the beam cross section where you want to recover response results (for the reference location). The letters C, D, E, and F correspond to the four stress recovery points on a typical beam section and “End” refers to end A or end B on the beam. So End A Recovery C indicates the C stress recovery point on end A.
Under Shell Element Layer, if you are evaluating stress or strain for shell elements, select the region over which the stress and strain should be calculated: Top, Middle, or Bottom.
Define the response location by choosing one or more nodes or elements. Refer to steps 4-8 above for more information. The process for defining the response location is the same as for the reference location, except that you can select multiple nodes or elements.
Under Location, you can specify the response location as the element centroid, corner points, or both centroid and corner points. If you choose Corners or Centroid and Corners, multiple result functions are generated for the reference element centroid to the response element centroid and corners. For 2D and 3D elements, you can only select the element centroid to be the reference location. For 1D elements, select one of the 2 nodes in the beam to be the reference location.
Under Output Setting, select the method for displaying and/or storing the generated response function. Store to AFU — Saves the generated response function(s) to an AFU file (the storage file for table functions). This option is useful if you will be evaluating response results and want to use the plotted response function to define the range of your evaluation (by selecting data points on the graph). The AFU file is created automatically with the same name as your simulation file, in the working directory where your simulation file is located. For more information about AFU files, see Manage AFU Files in the Functions and Graphing help. XY Graphing — Plots the response function as an XY graph in the graphics window.
If you selected Store to AFU, type a prefix in the Record Name Prefix box to identify this function record in the AFU file.
Click OK.
If you split your graphics window into two viewports, the software prompts you to select a viewport. Click the viewport where you want to display the response function.
