Laminate Composites > Creating a laminate physical property
Create a solid laminate physical property
This example shows how to create a symmetric laminate with a core middle ply that you then assign to the 3D mesh collector. The solid mesh should be a single layer of brick or wedge elements. The mesh layer thickness should match the thickness of the laminate physical property. Simcenter Nastran scales the ply thicknesses such that the laminate thickness fits the element height on each layer.
Note:
You must work in the FEM within the Simcenter Nastran or Abaqus solver environment.
Choose Laminates tab→3D group→Solid Laminate Physical Property .
In the Laminate Properties group, from the Stacking Recipe list, select Symmetric with core.
Create as many plies as you need. In the Ply Layup tab, click Create New Ply once for each ply that you want to create.
In the ply layup list, select the plies and assign a material, thickness, angle, ply failure theory, and inter-laminar failure theory for each ply.
Click OK.
In the Simulation Navigator , right-click the 3D mesh collector and choose Edit.
From the Type list, select Solid Laminate.
From the Solid Property list, select the solid laminate physical property that you just created.
Click OK.
