Computation Location dialog box
| Name-Description | |
|---|---|
| Name | Sets a unique name for the parameter. |
| Label | Sets a unique integer for the parameter. The dialog box automatically displays the next available label number. However, you might want to change this if you use a particular series of numbers to identify certain types of parameters. |
| Description | Sets a description for the parameter. This description appears in the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box only if you add the Description column to the list table. To do that, right-click the column heading row and choose Columns→Configure. In the Configure Columns dialog box, select the Description check box and then click OK. |
| Categorization | |
| Category | Sets the category name for this parameter. |
| Sub-Category | Sets the subcategory name for this parameter. The subcategory appears in the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box only if you add the Sub-Category column to the list table. |
| Result Output Location | |
| Result Output Location | Specifies where to calculate the various durability analysis results.Nodes of ElementCalculates the results on the nodes of an element directly. The results might be discontinuous at the element border and vary across the element.Center of ElementCalculates the results on the center of the element by averaging the values over the element. If the stress results in the FEM file are not already element-averaged, the stress results are averaged before the damage calculation starts. The result might be discontinuous at the element border, but the results are constant at a face.Note: The default mode of fatigue calculation is calculating on the surface. In this case, the averaging is applied to the nodes on the surface face of the elements. When elements have more than one surface face at the nodes where two faces of the same element meet each other, the most conservative values are plotted (that is, the less damaged face might show non-constant values).NodesCalculates the results on the nodes by averaging the element nodal results. If the stress results in the FEM file are not already nodal-averaged, the stress results and the face normals are averaged before the damage calculation starts. This gives continuous results. The values at the element nodes are independent from the element. |
| Mid Nodes of Parabolic Elements | Appears when Nodes of Element or Nodes is selected.Calculates the different results for a durability analysis case on mid-nodes of parabolic elements, if these elements exist in the model. |
| Computation on Element Types | |
| Shell Elements | Calculates the durability analysis results on 2D shell elements. |
| Solid Elements | Calculates the durability analysis results on 3D solid and 2D axisymmetric elements. |
| Layered Shell Elements | Calculates the durability analysis results on layered 2D shell elements in a composite material. |
| Layered Solid Elements (All Plies) | Calculates the durability analysis results on 3D solid elements of all plies in a composite material. |
| Shell Element Locations | |
| Appears when the Shell Elements check box is selected. | |
| Shell Element Locations | On SurfaceCalculates the durability analysis results on the surface of each 2D shell element.Below SurfaceCalculates the durability analysis results below the surface of each 2D shell element. For shells, the top and bottom values are used and interpolated. |
| Solid Element Locations | |
| Appears when the Solid Elements check box is selected. | |
| Solid Element Locations | Specifies the location of the 3D solid elements for which to calculate the durability analysis results. In VolumeCalculates the results for the 3D elements that are located inside the model, as well as for those on the surface. This can be important for short-fiber composite calculations, where the material (particularly the fiber orientation) might change from element to element. On SurfaceCalculates the results on the faces of the 3D elements that are on the surface of the model.Below SurfaceCalculates the results for the 3D elements below the surface of the model. |
| Layered Shell Element Locations | |
| Appears when the Layered Shell Elements check box is selected. | |
| Layered Shell Element Locations | Specifies the location of the 2D shell elements for which to calculate the durability analysis results. All PliesCalculates the results for the 2D shell elements in all the plies of a composite material. On SurfaceCalculates the results for the 2D shell elements in the upper and lower plies of a composite material.Below SurfaceCalculates the results for the 2D shell elements in the ply below the surface of a composite material. |
