Damage Initiation dialog box (Abaqus)

Properties
Description Lets you specify an optional description for the modeling object.
Damage Initiation Properties
Damage Initiation Criterion Lets you select the basis for the damage initiation criterion.Maximum StressSpecifies a damage initiation criterion based on the maximum nominal stress criterion for cohesive elements.Maximum SeparationSpecifies a damage initiation criterion based on the maximum separation criterion for cohesive surfaces.Quadratic StressSpecifies a damage initiation criterion based on the quadratic traction-interaction criterion for cohesive surfaces.Quadratic SeparationSpecifies a damage initiation criteria based on the quadratic separation-interaction criterion for cohesive surfaces.
Define Temperature Dependent Data Controls whether the properties that define the evolution of damage are constant or temperature-dependent.Select Define Temperature Dependent Data check box to specify a field. With this option, properties that define the evolution of damage are temperature-dependent.Clear the Define Temperature Dependent Data check box to specify that the properties are constant.
Maximum Stress Properties
Appear when Damage Initiation Criterion is set to Maximum Stress or Quadratic Stress and the Define Temperature Dependent Data check box is cleared.
Maximum Stress Normal-Only Mode Lets you specify the maximum nominal stress in the normal-only mode.
Maximum Stress First Shear Direction/Maximum Stress Second Shear Direction Lets you specify the maximum nominal stress in the first or second shear direction (for a mode that involves separation only in this direction).
Maximum Separation Properties
Appear when Damage Initiation Criterion is set to Maximum Separation or Quadratic Separation and the Define Temperature Dependent Data check box is cleared.
Separation At Damage Normal-Only Mode Lets you specify the separation at the damage initiation in the normal-only mode.
Separation At Damage First Shear Direction/Separation At Damage Second Shear Direction Lets you specify the separation at the damage initiation in a shear-only mode that involves separation only along the first or second shear directions.
