Temperature
Use Temperature to specify that selected geometry or elements remain at a known temperature regardless of heat flow. You can:
Constrain the temperature of either thermal or fluid elements.
Define the temperature as a constant or varying with time, heat flow rate, or thermal capacitance.Note: For a steady state analysis, the solver treats transient Temperature constraints according to the Transient Thermal Loads to Use for Steady State option that you select on the Solution Details page in the Solution dialog box.
Use previously calculated temperature results to define a constant value for each element individually.
Define a temperature field that varies spatially.Note: If you specify both a field for magnitude of the temperature and a spatially-varying distribution, you must specify the same model units and solution units for the temperature.
Supported geometry and mesh
Any order of geometry is supported. You can also directly select one or more elements. The constraint is applied to the selected elements.
| Geometry at known temperature | Select |
|---|---|
| Body surface | One of the following:Surface meshed with 2D elementsFace of a body meshed with 3D elements |
| Solid body | Solid body meshed with 3D elements |
| Edge or curve | One of the following:Edge or curve meshed with 1D elementsEdge of body face meshed with 2D elements |
| Vertex or point | Mesh point or point meshed with a 0D element |
Supported variables and functions
The following table lists the independent variables and auto-generated expressions for the Temperature quantities that you can define using fields and expressions.

In expressions, you can also use all built-in functions that are listed in Mathematical functions in expressions and most built-in functions that are listed in Thermal-flow functions in expressions.
