Import Fibersim Layup and Import CATIA Layup dialog boxes
| Import Settings | |
|---|---|
| Select 2D Objects | Lets you select the polygon faces or 2D elements onto which you want to import the layup. |
| Search Distance | Sets the search distance that the software uses to match the imported ply boundaries with the Pre/Post 2D mesh elements. Click Automatic Search Distance to use the search distance that is computed by this software. The automatic search distance is half of the root mean square of the element length. |
| Search Angle | Available in the Import CATIA Layup dialog box, when Source is set to Layup files (.layup).Sets the search angle that determines if the imported ply is mapped to the FEM element. The software compares the angle between the normal vector of the FEM element and the normal vector of the mesh element in the ***.layup** file. If the angle is greater than the specified value, the imported ply is not mapped to the FEM element. |
| Ply Mapping Options | Specifies how the imported plies are mapped to the FEM.ElementalMaps imported plies at the element centroid locations. You need to choose one of the following options:Map All ElementsLoops over all selected FEM elements and assigns them the appropriate imported ply data.Map Using Seed ElementAssigns, to all selected FEM elements, the imported ply data that is mapped to the selected seed element. Use Select Elements to select the seed element.NodalMaps imported plies at the element node locations. You need to choose one of the following options: Map if All Nodes Match PlyMaps an element if all its nodes belong to the imported ply. This option maps fewer elements near a ply boundary.Map if Any Node Matches PlyMaps an element if at least one of its nodes belong to the imported ply. This option maps more elements near a ply boundary. |
| Override Ply Mapping Options | Available in the Import Fibersim Layup dialog box.Overrides any ply import options with the options you specify in the Ply Mapping Options subgroup. |
| Fill Partially Mapped Faces | Available in the Import Fibersim Layup dialog box.Forces the mapping of all the elements associated to polygon faces which have an unmapped area percentage that is less than the Unmapped Face Threshold (%) value. The software fills the faces with unwanted unmapped regions by copying the mapping of the nearest elements. |
| Omit Partially Mapped Faces | Excludes the mapping of elements associated to polygon faces which have an unmapped area percentage that exceeds the Unmapped Face Threshold (%) value. |
| Import Options | |
| Source | Specifies the type of files that are imported. The following options are only available in the Import Fibersim Layup dialog box:Fibersim XML layup files (.xml)Imports the layup from a Fibersim CEE XML file. The XML file contains a layup name and a stacking sequence with a list of plies. For each ply, the XML file contains the following information that is imported:Fibersim ply nameMaterial namePly thicknessPly boundariesWarp and weft angles on the ply domainFibersim HDF5 layup files (.h5)Imports the layup from a Fibersim CEE HDF5 file. In addition to the information listed for the XML file, the HDF5 file also contains the following information that is imported:Fibersim material propertiesMaterial property unitsRosetteCurrent Fibersim PartImports the layup from the Pre/Post part that contains Fibersim data. Importing from the Pre/Post part file automatically performs a Fibersim productibility simulation on the selected plies. Importing a layup from an existing HDF5 file is less time consuming, especially when re-importing a layup. For more information, see Conditions to import from Fibersim. You select the Fibersim export object that you want to import from the Fibersim Objects list. The following options are only available in the Import CATIA Layup dialog box:**Layup files (.layup)**Imports ply definitions that are saved in the .layup format used by CATIA, Patran Laminate Modeler, and Laminate Tools.By default, the global ply ID is imported as the ply description. Select the Import Ply Description From Ply Name to import the ply name instead. The layup file also contains ply rosette and nominal ply angle.**CATIA Ply Groups (.xml)**Imports plies from an XML file that contains CATIA ply groups. The FEM must point to the part file that was created by the Content Migration Manager (CMM) along with the XML file. All plies are imported into a single layup and grouped as function of the parent CATIA ply group. A CATIA ply group contains:IDs of the CAD surfaces related to each ply group. These faces must exist in the part, and associated polygon geometry must exist in the FEM.The origin and axes of rosettes for orienting the plies.A list of plies. For each ply, the XML file contains boundary curve IDs, material, direction, and rosette. The boundary curves must exist in the FEM.A list of materials. For each material, the XML file contains its name, density, lock angle indicated by the maximum deformation, and draping solver type indicated by the material type. You can modify the mesh size factor value in the Mesh Size Factor box and the number of discretization points in the Number of Discretization Points box. These values are used for mapping imported plies to the existing 2D meshes. For more information, see Importing CATIA ply group algorithm. |
| Import File | Available when Source is not set to Current Fibersim Part.Sets the file that contains the layup to be imported. Click Browse to navigate to the location of the file to be imported. |
| Import Materials | Available when Source is set to Fibersim HDF5 layup files (.h5), Current Fibersim Part, or CATIA Ply Groups (.xml).Imports Fibersim materials along with their properties. It assigns FIBERSIM to the material Category. |
| Overwrite Materials | Available when the Import Materials check box is selected.Replaces existing Fibersim materials in Pre/Post with the imported materials. |
| Options | |
| Overwrite Imported Layup Name | Replaces the name of previously imported layup with the name from the import file. You set the name of the imported layup in the Layup Name box. When this check box is not selected, the imported layup has the same name as the Fibersim file. |
