Geometry Optimization workflow

Step Detailed help topic
1. Create the FEM file, idealized part file, Simulation file, and a solution for the model as you would for other solution types. Solve the model to establish the baseline values for stresses, displacements, frequency, and so on.You can use any solver or solution type except for one that produces more than a single binary results file. General analysis workflows
2. Create the geometry optimization solution process and choose the optimization algorithm that you want to use. Create the geometry optimization
3. Define the overall goal of the optimization, such as to minimize weight in the model. You can use the Result Measures command to help you define objectives such as displacement, stress, and temperature. Create a weight or volume objectiveCreate an objective from a result measureCreate a frequency objective
4. Define design constraints. Design constraints define upper and lower limits on a specific attribute of the model. You can use the Result Measures command to help you define these constraints. Create a weight or volume constraintCreate a constraint based on a result measureDefine a frequency design constraint
5. Define design variables.Design variables are independent quantities that the optimization process can vary to achieve the optimum design. You can use any parameter that can be represented by a Simcenter 3D or NX expression. Define design variables for the geometry optimization
6. Specify optimization parameters such as maximum iterations and solution convergence criteria. Geometry optimization parameters
7. Solve the optimization. Solve the geometry optimization
8. Analyze the optimization results. Analyzing optimization results
