Deleting polygon faces
Video: Use model cleanup commands in the FEM to close up a solid body
Use the Delete Face command to delete selected polygon faces. You can delete:
Polygon faces that the software automatically creates in your model when you create a FEM file.
Polygon faces that you create with the Face from Mesh command. For more information on creating new polygon faces from an existing mesh, see Creating faces from existing meshes.
Polygon faces that you create with the Face from Boundary command.
Able to delete single or multiple faces
Use the Delete Face command to delete selected polygon faces. With the Delete Face command, you can:
Select a single face to delete.
Use area selection to select multiple faces to delete at the same time.
After you delete the selected faces, the software marks the FEM file as update pending in the Simulation Navigator. To update the model, use the Update Finite Element Model command.
Faces with Glue Coincident type Mesh Mating Conditions
You cannot use the Delete Face command to delete faces that have Glue Coincident mesh mating conditions defined on them. You must first delete the Glue Coincident mesh mating condition before you can use Delete Face to delete the face.
Deletion of polygon bodies is not allowed
In some cases, the software may not delete the faces you selected. For example, if the deletion of the selected faces would cause a polygon body to be deleted, the software does not delete the faces. Instead, it places the faces that you had selected for deletion into an output group in the Simulation Navigator.
If a polygon body only contains a single face, you must delete the entire body to remove it. Right-click the polygon body in the Simulation Navigator and select Delete.
For more information, see Tools for identifying and repairing polygon body problems.
Output group
If the software is unable to delete any of the faces you select, the software puts those faces in an output group in the Simulation Navigator.
