Laminate Composites > Defining plies and a stacking sequence
Using a spreadsheet or a CSV file to define a layup
Use the Edit Layup in Spreadsheet or Import Layup from CSV File options to define your layup in an Excel spreadsheet or a CSV file, and import the layup.
Each row in the file defines one ply in the layup. Each column cell in the row specifies a property for the ply. You must specify the columns in the order shown in the following example.
| Material Name | Thickness (mm) | Angle (deg) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 0 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | –45 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 90 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 45 | |
| KEVLAR CORE | 12.7 | 0 | Core ply |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 45 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 90 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | –45 | |
| KEVLAR SKIN | 0.0635 | 0 |
The material name is the name of an existing Pre/Post material or ply material. If the material name is not found in the FEM file, the ply is not imported.
Thickness values are in the FEM units.
The orientation angle can be a positive or negative value in degrees.
The description column is required but entering a description is optional.
To import the layup from the spreadsheet, select the cells you want to import.
Note:
When you import a layup into an existing layup, it overrides the layup definition.
When you import a layup from a spreadsheet or a CSV file, the Stacking Recipe list is reset to Regular. The content of the ply layup is always identical to the content that is displayed on the Ply Sketcher tab.
