Connect the duct network to the 3D flow domain
If your model contains both complex 3D fluid volumes and simple 1D duct flow or pipe flow, you can set up an interface between the duct network and the 3D flow domain.
Note:
The 1D mesh collector must be of type Duct or Duct with Thick Wall.
The 3D fluid elements and the 1D fluid duct elements must have the same material properties.
Mixtures and tracer fluids are not supported.
You must create your duct network, and ensure that the end of the lines that represents the ducts, lie on the faces of a 3D fluid domain.
Display the Simulation file.
In your model, verify the following:An edge node of each duct branch must lie on the face of the 3D fluid domain. The cross section areas of adjacent duct branches must not intersect. There must be at least 2 elements in the 3D fluid mesh between the connecting points of adjacent duct branches.
Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Duct Flow Boundary Conditions .
In the Duct Flow Boundary Conditions dialog box, in the Type group, select Duct to 3D Flow Connection from list.
In the Region to Apply Duct to 3D Flow Connection group, define the region to apply the duct to 3D flow connection, by selecting one or more the polygon faces. When multiple ducts lie on the same face you only need to create only one Duct to 3D Flow Connection type of the Duct Flow Boundary Conditions simulation object.
From the Flow Condition at Interface list, select Auto-Determine.
In the Head Loss box, type a head loss value.
Click OK.
(Optional) When modeling the heat transfer in your duct network, connect duct walls and the rest of the model, use thermal couplings.
