Moving Frame of Reference

Use a Moving Frame of Reference simulation object to model the effect of rotating machinery on the surrounding inertial fluid or to define acceleration on the fluid.

Types of motion

You can model the following types of motion:

Rotating Frame of Reference

Defines a rotating frame of reference on part of the fluid domain in your model.

You always apply a Rotating Frame of Reference type of the Moving Frame of Reference simulation object to polygon bodies or 3D elements and define the axis of rotation and angular velocity.

Caution:

You cannot define a Rotating Frame of Reference type of the Moving Frame of Reference simulation object on a volume, whose outer surfaces are in contact with surfaces defined with disjoint fluid meshes.

Translating Frame of Reference

Defines a time-varying acceleration on all fluid enclosures in the model when you want to model two-phase, immiscible fluids.

When you define a Translating Frame of Reference type of the Moving Frame of Reference simulation object, the software automatically selects the complete model. During the solve, it applies the acceleration to all fluid enclosures in the model.
