Understanding the Object to Object type of Thermal Coupling — Radiation
The Object to Object Radiation type of Thermal Coupling — Radiation is typically used to model radiation heat transfer between objects that are not close to one another and where the assumption of view factor = 1.0 is not valid. The radiative coupling is not from the primary to the closest secondary elements but from the primary to the average temperature of the secondary set and from each secondary to the average temperature of the primary set.
With the Object to Object Radiation type, the software creates two one-way couplings:
One from each primary element to the average temperature of the secondary elements.
One from each secondary element to the average temperature of the primary elements.
How the software calculates the couplings for an Object to Object Radiation type of Thermal Coupling — Radiation depends upon the option you select for the Type option in the Parameters group:
If you choose Gray Body View Factor, the software calculates the couplings based on the elements' optical property emissivity values and the Gray Body View Factor value that you specify.
If you choose Effective Emissivity, the software calculates the couplings based on the elements' effective emissivity value, which is defined as the emissivity of the primary elements multiplied by the Gray Body View Factor. The elements' optical property emissivity values are not used. With this option, you specify a value for Emissivity * Gray Body View Factor.
