Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling, and Space Systems Thermal > Solving the model
Parallel processing
When you perform the computation in parallel, you reduce solve time.
You can either specify multiple computers or multiple processors on one or more computers.
At run time, the software automatically balances the workload for parallel computing between the designated processes.
Supported platforms
Parallel processing is supported on Windows and Linux platforms. All computers used for parallel processing must have compatible operating systems.
Parallel configuration file
To run solutions in parallel, you specify the parallel configuration XML file that contains a list of computers to use for parallel processing. This file is created or modified through the Parallel Configuration Tool that allows you to set up and validate the environment for parallel processing.
You can set the Parallel Configuration File customer default to specify the default parallel configuration XML file.
Note:
When you open some old XML file in the Parallel Configuration Tool, the software only preserves the filename. To use the file for parallel processing, you must make all appropriate selections before saving the file.
Supported Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow licenses
If you have advanced thermal or flow licenses, you can perform an analysis in parallel on a single workstation with access for up to 8 processes per run.
If you have the Simcenter 3D Thermal/Flow DMP license, any software limitations on the number of solver processes per run for parallel processing is removed. You can also perform an analysis in parallel over networks and clusters. For more information, see Thermal and Flow DMP Manual .
Message Passing Interface for parallel processing
During parallel processing, the processes send and receive data and results through the Message Passing Interface (MPI). Each process executes its own MPI-enabled flow solver or thermal solver modules.
This software uses the MPI implementation called IBM Platform MPI V9.1.4.
