The coarse model
The coarse model is built in a similar way as the modeling in real life applications. The T-joint is modeled with shell elements, where the seam weld is defined by the nodes at the intersection of the two sheets.

At the green point, the nodal forces and moments for each load case are calculated in the same way as it was done for the detail model. This leads to a second influence matrix SFi,j. The matrix SFi,j contains the nominal stresses calculated by the forces in sheet coordinate system (x: sheet direction, y: sheet normal, z: seam weld direction). In the matrix SFi,j, the letter i denotes the component of the force (including the moments) while j denotes the load case. The nominal stresses for the T-joint are given by following formulas:
The sheet thickness is given by t and l being the effective connection length of the node. The effective length of the node is defined by the shape of the adjacent elements. For a linear element, the effective connection length is calculated as:
