Replace a component FEM with a DMIG-based FEM

Replace a component FEM with a DMIG-based representation

This procedure replaces a component FEM with a DMIG-based FEM, such as might be used in an aircraft, automobile, or spacecraft assembly FEM. For more information, see Create a DMIG-based FEM.

  1. Open the assembly FEM that contains the component FEM you want to replace with the DMIG-based FEM.

  2. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the component FEM you want to replace and choose Replace Component.

  3. In the Replace Component warning box, click OK.

  4. In the Replace Component dialog box, do the following:From the File Name list table, select the part to be replaced. In the Settings group, select the Maintain Relationships check box. The Maintain Relationships option preserves the assembly hierarchy and connections to other components, such as Universal Connections. If you do not maintain these relationships, you may affect the connections, or boundary conditions, in the assembly FEM.

  5. Browse to the DMIG-based FEM file, select it, and click OK.

  6. Click OK in the Replace Componentdialog box.The component FEM is replaced by the DMIG-based FEM.You have successfully converted a structural FEM into a DMIG, and changed the FEM representation to a matrix element. The FEM has now become less complex and the details of the original FEM are hidden, preserving confidentiality and proprietary information. You can now use the modified assembly FEM to perform structural evaluations.

Complete assembly FEM with (1) satellite component FEM and (2) payload adapter component FEM. Satellite component FEM replaced with DMIG-based component FEM

Replace a DMIG-based FEM representation with the original FEM file

This procedure replaces a DMIG-based FEM with the FEM file it originally replaced.

  1. Open the assembly FEM that contains the DMIG-based FEM that you want to replace with its original component FEM.

  2. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the DMIG-based FEM that you want to replace and choose Replace Component.

  3. In the Replace Component dialog box, do the following:Click Browse to navigate to the original FEM file, and click OK.In the Settings group, select the Maintain Relationships check box. Click OK.
