Chaining with a dynamic response solution (Simcenter Samcef)

You can chain an active Linear Transient Response Analysis or Linear Harmonic Response Analysis solution with a nonlinear solution. On the Chaining page of the dynamic response solution, you select the solved nonlinear solution and subcase whose results you want to use, and you define the chaining parameters.

Note:

To chain a dynamic response analysis with a nonlinear analysis, you must create a Storage modeling object and select the Generate Output for Modal Analysis check box.

The only type of chaining available for a dynamic response analysis chained to a nonlinear analysis is the Analysis around the instantaneous configuration chaining type. This chaining type uses the converged state (results, stiffness, and mass matrices) as the model configuration around which the modal dynamic analysis is performed.

General

Use these options to select the type of chaining and the source of the results you want to chain to the dynamic response solution.

Option Description
Activate Chaining Activates chaining.
Chaining Type Specifies the chaining type:Analysis around the instantaneous configuration—Performs a modal superposition on the results.
Source Type Specifies the source from which you want to extract chaining data:Solution—Lets you select a solution or solution step that is already defined in the current model.External File—Lets you select a Simcenter Samcef binary file (.u18).

Contact control

Use these options to manage contact in the dynamic response solution.

Option Description
Contact Control Specifies how the contact conditions in the nonlinear solution are handled.Free normal and tangential contact degrees-of-freedomThe status of the contact conditions defined in the nonlinear solution is ignored in the modal solution. All the contact degrees of freedom are free.Normal contact d.o.f. depends on contact status in prerequisite solutionThe normal contact status (fixed or free) computed in the nonlinear solution is maintained in the modal solving.Normal contact and sliding d.o.f. depends on prerequisite solutionThe normal and sliding contact status (fixed or free) computed in the nonlinear solution is maintained in the modal solving. For more information, see the CONFIX parameters of the .ALGO Samcef command.
Precision Lets you define when a contact degree of freedom is marked as closed. If the reaction/force at a degree of freedom is greater than the value you specify for Precision multiplied by the greatest reaction/force on the structure (reference value), the degree of freedom is marked as closed. For more information, see the CONPRE parameter of the .ALGO Samcef command. For information on setting the magnitude, see Additional magnitude options.
