Internal restarts (SOL 402)

Use internal restarts to start a subcase with the computation state (displacements, velocities, stresses, state variables, and so on) from another subcase within the same solution. For example, use internal restarts to apply a preload computation for bolts to one or more subcases. This eliminates the need for creating a preload subcase for each subcase that requires the preload results. The preload subcases can contain bolt forces or contact definitions. You can assign preload subcases to any subcase type.

For example, suppose you want to use the final state of a bolt preload subcase as the initial state for three nonlinear dynamics subcases. To do this, define the subcases as follows:

  • Ensure that the bolt preload subcase start time equals the end time.

  • Set the nonlinear dynamic subcases to use the computation state of the bolt preload subcase:Set the subcases to be non-sequentially dependent (NSD). In each dynamic subcase, select the bolt preload subcase as the restart subcase.

Note:

SOL 401 does not support internal restarts.
