Selection recipes

View selection recipe objects and content

When you create a selection recipe that uses only a bounding volume or single-node strategy (that is, a coordinate, point, or single-label strategy), the graphics window displays a symbol for that object. For a bounding volume selection recipe, the symbol is an outline of the bounding volume. For a single-node selection recipe, the symbol is a filled circle.

You can show or hide selection recipe symbols using the Show and Hide, Hide, Show, Show Only, Show All of Type, and Immediate Hide commands.

You can also use the following procedures to show or hide selection recipe symbols or the entities that the selection recipe selects.

Note:

The strategies used in a selection recipe affect the availability of certain commands. For example, if a stacked selection recipe includes both a bounding volume and attribute strategy, you can use the Show Contents Only or Show Contents Only Displayable command. However, if the selection recipe uses both a bounding volume and label range strategy, those commands are not available.

In addition, if the Show and Hide Nodes Independently command on the Top Border bar is turned on, or if you select the Show and Hide Nodes Independently check box in the Model Display dialog box, the Show Contents Only command becomes available for selection recipes that select nodes.

Show or hide a bounding volume or single-node selection recipe object

Select or deselect the check box next to the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator.Depending on how the selection recipe display is configured, this might affect the graphic symbol, the selection recipe name, the node ID, or any combination of those. For coordinate and point selection recipes, the graphic symbol appears at the specified coordinate or point, not at the location of the node that the selection recipe selects. For a single-label selection recipe, the graphic symbol appears at the selected node. When the selection recipe object is shown, selecting the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator highlights the object in the graphics window.Note: For bounding volumes with an infinite depth, the graphic symbol shows only the two-dimensional boundary.

Highlight the selected entities

Right-click the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator and choose Select Contents.

Show only the displayable entities

Right-click the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator and choose Show Contents Only. For selection recipes that include some entities that can be independently shown (such as elements) and others that cannot (such as polygon or element edges, element faces, and so on), the command is Show Contents Only Displayable. This hides all other portions of the model.

Hide the displayable entities

Right-click the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator and choose Hide Contents. For selection recipes that include some entities that can be independently shown and others that cannot, the command is Hide Contents Displayable.

Show the previously hidden entities

Right-click the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator and choose Show Contents.

For selection recipes that include some entities that can be independently shown and others that cannot, the command is Show Contents Displayable.

Edit the display for a single-node or bounding volume selection recipe

Right-click the selection recipe in the Simulation Navigator and choose Edit Display.

To edit the display for multiple selection recipes simultaneously, press and hold Ctrl as you select each selection recipe, and then right-click one of them.

You can change the object color as well as what to show in the graphics window when the selection recipe check box is selected in the Simulation Navigator: the graphic symbol, the selection recipe name, or both. For single-node recipes, you can also show the node ID. For bounding volumes, you can specify the line width or font (style) for the bounding volume container.

When you edit the display for one or more selection recipes, you can optionally modify all selection recipes of the same type simultaneously. For example, you can change the color for one specific bounding volume, or you can apply that color change to all bounding volumes.

View the solver syntax

For models that have an active solution, you can preview the solver syntax for a selection recipe that selects nodes, elements, or both. To view this information, right-click the selection recipe and choose Solver Syntax Preview.

The Information window displays the data to be sent to the solver.
