The main panel of the Simulation Navigator includes several nodes used specifically for the Durability solution process. See Simulation Navigator overview for information about other areas of the Simulation Navigator.

Durability 1 Durability solution process nodeA Durability node contains one or more static and transient events that you want to analyze for durability and fatigue life. The Description column in the Simulation Navigator for each Durability solution process displays either Simcenter 3D Durability or NX Durability Wizard.Simcenter 3D Durability indicates that the Durability commands in Pre/Post were used to create the process.NX Durability Wizard indicates that the Durability Wizard was used to create the process.
Static Event 1 Load Pattern 1 Load Pattern 2 Static Event 1 Static Event 2 Result Path 1 Static Event 3 Function 1 Static Event 3 Static event nodesA Static Event node contains one or more excitation nodes and the result node for that event.A static event references the stress and strain results from a static solution.Right-click the Static Event node and choose Edit to modify the static event settings. For other commands, see Event node commands. You can activate or deactivate events to include in the durability solution process by selecting or clearing the check box in front of a Static Event node. The static event results node has the same name as the Static Event node, but the results node icon appears in front of its name. If an event is modified, the results node is obsolete and the obsolete results node icon is displayed instead.Excitation nodesEach static event can have multiple excitations of same type. You set the excitation type in the Static Durability Event dialog box when you create the static event. You can choose one of the following types:Load patternSimulates a cyclical loading condition by multiplying stress or strain results from the static solution subcase with a half-unit or full-unit cyclic function and a scaling factor.Result pathDefines a loading pattern by repeating the stress or strain results from the static solution subcase with different scaling factors. It enables quasi-static scaling of load cases to model spectrum loading.Excitation functionSimulates a cyclical loading condition by multiplying stress or strain results from the static solution subcase with a general AFU table function and a scaling factor.
Transient Event 1 Transient Event 1 Transient event nodesA Transient Event node contains the result node for that event.A transient event references the stress and strain history results from a transient solution. The transient structural analysis solution defines the excitations for the transient events.Right-click the Transient Event node and choose Edit to modify the transient event settings. For other commands, see Event node commands. You can activate or deactivate events to include in the durability solution process by selecting or clearing the check box in front of a Transient Event node. The transient event results node has the same name as the Transient Event node, but the results node icon appears in front of its name. If an event is modified, the results node is obsolete and the obsolete results node icon is displayed instead.
Random Event 1 Random Event 1 Random event nodesA Random Event node contains the result node for that event.A random event references the Von Mises stress power spectral density (PSD) from the Response Dynamics solution process.Right-click the Random Event node and choose Edit to modify the random event settings. or other commands, see Event node commands. You can activate or deactivate events to include in the durability solution process by selecting or clearing the check box in front of a Random Event node. The random event results node has the same name as the Random Event node, but the results node icon appears in front of its name. If an event is modified, the results node is obsolete and the obsolete results node icon is displayed instead.
Durability 1 Durability results nodeThe durability results node contains the durability result sets that take into account the results from each active static and transient event. This results node has the same name as the Durability node, but the results node icon appears in front of its name. If the results node is obsolete the obsolete results node icon is displayed instead. The Status column for the Durability results node in the Simulation Navigator displays Obsolete when you:Modify an event whose results are cumulated in the Durability solution process.Deactivate an event whose results are cumulated in the Durability solution process.Add a new event to the Durability solution process.

Different commands are available depending on which node you right-click in the Simulation Navigator.

Durability solution process node commands

The following commands appear when you right-click the Durability node in the Simulation Navigator.

Icon Command name Description
Edit Using Wizard Available if you created the durability solution process through the Durability Wizard.Opens the Durability Wizard.
Rename Available only when the durability solution process is active.Lets you change the name of the durability solution process.
Clone Creates a copy of the durability solution process and makes it active.
Delete Deletes the durability solution process along with all its events and attached results.
New Event Available only when the durability solution process is active.Lets you specify the type of durability event to create.
New EventStatic Lets you create a static durability event.
New EventTransient Lets you create a transient durability event.
New EventRandom Lets you create a random durability event.
Make Active Available only when the durability solution process is not active.Activates the durability solution process.
Model Setup Check Runs the model setup check for durability analysis. The passed and failed check information is displayed in the Information window.
Solve Available only when the durability solution process is active.Lets you solve the durability solution process and its events. You can choose to solve all active events or only unsolved active events.
Report Results Opens the Durability Results Reporter dialog box. You can export selected damage results for elements to an Excel spreadsheet or a CSV file.
Information Opens the Information window that lists, for each event, all the durability settings information.
Show Solution Log Opens the Information window that displays the information contained in the ***.ftl** file of the durability solution process. The displayed information contains:The names of the following files: the ***.ftl** file, the source files containing the stress or strain history, and the ***.bud** files that contains the durability or event results.Event information: the list of strength and durability results that are calculated, evaluation and stress axis options, and excitations.Minimum and maximum strength and durability results.

Event node commands

The following commands appear when you right-click the Static Event node, the Transient Event node, or the Random Event node in the Simulation Navigator.

Icon Command name Description
Edit Lets you modify the selected durability event.
Rename Lets you change the name of the event.
Clone Creates a copy of the event.
Delete Deletes the event. The results file attached to it is not deleted.
New Excitation Appears only for the Static Event node.Lets you create an excitation of the type you defined in the parent static event.
Make Active Appears only when the durability event is not active.Activates the durability event.
Make Inactive Appears only when the durability event is active.Deactivates the durability event.
Solve Lets you solve the selected event.
Evaluate Fatigue Histories Appears only for the Static Event node or the Transient Event node.Exports the elemental fatigue stress or strain histories of the selected static or transient durability event to an external file. The external file can be:An AFU file. This file lets you visualize the history functions in the XY Function Navigator. An Excel spreadsheet. This file lets you manipulate the history functions using Excel functionality.A CSV file. This file lets you store the data in a comma-separated value ASCII file.Note: Exporting fatigue to an AFU file for a large number of elements can be slow. Reduce the set of elements in the solve options durability object to improve the exporting time.
Information Opens the Information window that lists the event settings.
Show Solution Log Opens the Information window that displays the information contained in the ***.ftl** file of the selected event. The displayed information contains:The names of the following files: the ***.ftl** file, the source files containing the stress or strain history, and the ***.bud** files that contains the durability event results.Event information: the list of strength and durability results that are calculated, evaluation and stress axis options, and excitations.Minimum and maximum strength and durability results.
