Create seam weld and spot weld universal connections using auto-detection
Use this procedure when you have a FEM file that already contains seam or spot weld connection elements and you want to create universal connections from them that you can use in Specialist Durability solutions.
Make the FEM file the work part and the displayed part.
Use the auto-detect command to find the existing connection elements by choosing Home tab→Universal Connections group→Auto-detect Seam Welds or Auto-detect Spot Welds .
In the dialog box, do one of the following to select the entities to search, and then click OK.For spot welds, select all entities, a group, or individual entities that contain spot weld connection elements. For seam welds, select a group of entities that contains seam weld flange elements, and select the type of weld. The Information window opens with a list of the entities that were searched and the number of weld connections that were found. The Simulation Navigator is updated as follows:The Universal Connections container is updated with a new connection for each seam or spot weld that was detected. The status of the new universal connections is Not realized. For spot welds, a connection might have an Invalid status. When this happens, right-click the connection and choose Edit. In the Spot Weld Connection dialog box, adjust the options as necessary. For example, you may need to adjust some of the tolerance settings on the Tolerances page. For more information, see Adhesive / Clinch / Crimp / Rivet / Sealing / Seam Weld / Spot Weld Connection dialog box.The Connection Elements container is updated with a new connection for each seam or spot weld that was detected. The status of the new connection elements is Update Pending. For seam welds, each connection is set to manual modelization, which indicates that the universal connection options for realizing (meshing) a connection do not apply, and the method for node selection is set to Connection Nodes, which indicates that the node line in the connection was used to connect the parts. For more information, see Connection element dialog boxes. The status of the FEM file is Update Pending.
Update the FEM file and its connections and connection elements by choosing Home tab→Context group→Update .Note: The Automatic Elements and Connection Elements commands do not apply to imported connections because they point to existing connection elements. The status of the detected universal connections and connection elements becomes Up-to-date.
