Motion Results scenario (Simcenter 3D Motion)

This video shows how to analyze Motion results using preconfigured views

The Motion Results post-processing scenario helps you plot an element in a data source against time or other variables. It is available when your data source is one of the following file types, which contain channel data. For more information about the file types, see Data sources supported for post-processing scenarios.

  • Comma-separated values spreadsheet (.csv)

  • DAC (.dac)

  • Excel spreadsheet ( .xls/.xlsx)

  • LMS Virtual.Lab Motion results files (*.LMSMotionResults)

  • RPC-III (.rpc)

  • Simcenter 3D Motion (*.mres)

In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, motion elements are represented as data definitions and their variables are the dependent variables of the data definitions. You can use the filter in the dialog box to select the specific instance of the element to plot. You can also set scaling and offsets on the values. You can visualize the scenario as XY plots.

Definitions and Selections

When you create a Motion Results scenario, you can refine your analysis using functions that plot a single variable against time (transient functions) or other variables (composed functions).

  • Transient FunctionsThe Transient Functions data definition plots a single variable (results versus time). In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization dialog box, you select the type of element, the variable, and the specific element instance. For example, use the following scenario setup. In the Definition node, select the following:

        **Definition** = Transient Functions
        **Element** = Contact
In the **Selection** node, select the following:

        **Element** = Load-Bucket
**Variable (Element)** = Normal Force [fn]

           **Transient function plot**

  • Composed FunctionsThe Composed Functions data definition plots one set of XY data against another. In the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator, you select the data for the X and Y axes. For example, use the following scenario setup. In the Definition node, select the following:

        **Definition** = Composed Functions
        **X Axis** = Driver
        **Y Axis** = Tire Force
In the **Selection** node, select the following:

        **Element (X Axis)** = Steering_Driver
**Variable (X Axis)** = Angle [ang]
        **Element (Y Axis)** = Tire_FL
**Variable (Y Axis)** = Normal Force [fn]

           **Composed function plot**

Parameters

The following table lists the parameters available for defining Motion Results post-processing scenarios. They appear in the Parameters node of the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator.

Parameter Description
Apply Scaling X axis Apply Scaling Y axis Applies scaling to the selected function.
Apply Offset X axis Apply Offset Y axis Applies an offset to the selected function.
