Processing of angular and non-angular measures in Simcenter 3D versions 11 and 12
For these Simcenter 3D 11 and Simcenter 3D 12, the values that the software returned depended on the Expression Angular Units for Distance Calculations customer default setting, which was added to the software in Simcenter 3D 11.
When you set the Expression Angular Units for Distance Calculations customer default to Degrees, the software processed products of angular and non-angular measures exactly as it did in versions of Simcenter 3D prior to 11. Thus, you would use this setting when you migrated expressions that were created in a version of Simcenter 3D prior to 11 and the formulas for the expressions included both:Products of angular and non-angular measures.Correction factors to account for unexpected results.
When you set the Expression Angular Units for Distance Calculations customer default to Radians, the software returned the expected result as follows:ProductExpression dimensionality (units)Formula for the expressionValue for the expressionrθDisplacement (mm)25[mm]3[radians]75[mm]25[mm]3[degrees]1.3089....[mm]rω2Acceleration (mm/sec^2)25[mm](2[radians/sec]^2)100[mm/sec^2]25[mm](2[degrees/sec]^2)0.03046....[mm/sec^2]Because you no longer needed to apply a correction factor to expressions with formulas that included the product of angular and non-angular measures to obtain expected results, you would use the Radians setting when you created models in Simcenter 3D 11 or Simcenter 3D 12. If you used the Radians setting with an expression that contained a correction factor, the software returned the expected result scaled by the correction factor as follows:ProductExpression dimensionality (units)Formula for the expressionValue for the expressionrθDisplacement (mm)25[mm]3[radians]PI()/1801.3089....[mm]25[mm]3[degrees]PI()/1800.02284....[mm]rω2Acceleration (mm/sec^2)25[mm](2[radians/sec]^2)((PI()/180)^2)0.03046....[mm/sec^2]25[mm](2[degrees/sec]^2)((PI()/180)^2)0.000009279....[mm/sec^2]Thus, you needed to exercise caution when you migrated expressions from a version of Simcenter 3D prior to 11, and the expressions contained products of angular measures and non-angular measures, and the Expression Angular Units for Distance Calculations customer default was set to Radians.
