Mesh Point Constructor dialog box
| Type | |
|---|---|
| Type | Lets you select the method you use to define the location of the mesh point.Inferred Point — Creates a mesh point at the location you select. For example, you can select a location along an edge, curve, or surface. The software displays the coordinates of the newly created mesh point in the Coordinates group.Existing Point — Creates a mesh point at the location of an existing point. You can only select an existing point that is associated to the polygon geometry.Note: Points that are associated to your original CAD geometry are not associated with the polygon geometry the software generates when you create a FEM file. Therefore, you cannot select those points when you use the Existing Point option.End Point — Creates a mesh point at the end point of a selected line, arc, or other curve.Arc/Ellipse/Sphere Center — Creates a mesh point at the center of an arc, ellipse, circular or elliptical edge, or sphere. On Curve/Edge — Creates a mesh point at a position along a curve or edge.On Surface — Creates a mesh point at a selected location on a face. Projected Point — Projects a point or points onto a selected edge, curve, or point. The software then creates mesh points at that location.Inside Solid — Creates a mesh point at a specified location in the interior of a solid body or volume.Multiple Meshpoints On Curve/Edge — Creates a number of mesh points along the selected curve. You can either specify the number of mesh points to create (to be spaced evenly on the edge) or you can specify the spacing between the points and let the software calculate the number of points to create. |
| Coordinates | |
| X, Y, and Z | Displays the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the point you select or create. |
| Assign Node Label | Lets you assign an unused node ID to the new mesh point. When you create a new mesh point, the software displays the next available node ID value in this field. When you edit an existing mesh point, the software displays the node ID value of any node that is already associated with the mesh point. |
End Point, Existing Point, and Arc/Ellipse/Sphere Center options
| Point Location | |
|---|---|
| Select Object | Lets you select the location of the mesh point. With the End Point option, select a location along a curve that is near the end point. With the Existing Point option, select an existing point. With the Arc/Ellipse/Sphere Center option, select the arc, ellipse, or sphere. The software automatically creates a mesh point at its center. |
On Curve/Edge options
| Curve | |
|---|---|
| Select Object | Lets you select the edge or curve on which to create the mesh point. |
| U Parameter | |
| U Parameter | Displays the U coordinate of the point on the parameter plane. Initially, this option displays the U coordinate of the point you selected along the curve. You can modify this value to change the location of the mesh point. |
Inside Solid options
| Volume | |
|---|---|
| Select Body | Lets you select the polygon body within which to create the mesh point. |
| Point | |
| Specify Point | Lets you define the location of the mesh point.Note: You must select a point that lies inside the selected solid body. |
| Coordinates | |
| X, Y, Z | Displays the location of the specified point. When you first select a volume, the software displays the coordinates for the center of gravity of that volume. |
Multiple Meshpoints on Curve/Edge options
| Edge/Curve | |
|---|---|
| Select Object | Lets you select the edge or curve on which to create the mesh point. With Pre/Post, you can also use a selection recipe to specify the edge or curve. For more information, see Selection recipes. |
| Creation Method | |
| Creation Method | Lets you select how you want to Number of Meshpoints: Lets you specify exactly how many mesh points to create along the edge or curve.Distance Between: Lets you specify the amount of space the software should leave between the mesh points along the edge or curve. |
| Number of Meshpoints | Lets you specify the number of mesh points to create along the mesh or curve. |
| Distance Between | Lets you specify the amount of space the software should leave between the mesh points. With this option, the software determines the number of mesh points to create. |
Projected Point options
| Object to Project to | |
|---|---|
| Select Object | Lets you select the edge, curve, or face onto which to project the mesh points. With Pre/Post, you can also use a selection recipe to define this location. For more information, see Selection recipes. |
| Project to Nearest Object Only | Projects mesh points only to the closest selected object. Clear this check box to project mesh points onto all selected objects. |
| Project within a Search Distance | Projects mesh points only to all objects that lie within the specified Search Distance. |
| Projection Method | |
| Method | Controls the method that the software uses to project the mesh points.Nearest PointProjects the mesh points to the closest points on the selected objects.Along VectorProjects the mesh points along a selected vector. |
| Specify Vector | Available when Method is set to Along Vector.Lets you define the vector along which to project the mesh points. |
| Reverse Direction | Available when Method is set to Along Vector.Reverses the direction of the vector. |
| Projection Tolerance | Available when Method is set to Along Vector.Controls whether the software projects the selected points onto the selected geometry. If the distance between a projected point and the target geometry is less than this tolerance, the software creates the mesh point. |
| Point | |
| Select Points | Lets you select or create the points to project onto the edge, curve, or face. With Pre/Post, you can also use a selection recipe to define the point or points. For more information, see Selection recipes. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
On Surface options
| Face | |
|---|---|
| Select Object | Lets you select the face on which to create the mesh point. |
| Location on Face | |
| U Parameter****V Parameter | Displays the U and V coordinates of the point on the face in parameter space. Initially, this option displays the U and V coordinates of the point you selected on the face. You can modify this value to change the location of the mesh point. |
