Boundary conditions
Boundary condition status in Simulation Navigator
In addition to the standard visibility check box, loads, constraints, and simulation objects are listed in the Simulation Navigator with a special status indicator:
A solid red dot indicates that the boundary condition is fully defined and included in a current solution.
An open red circle indicates that the boundary condition is not included in any solution, and will be ignored by the solver. To include the boundary condition in the active solution, drag it to the appropriate container in the solution.
This symbol indicates that the defined boundary condition is not attached to the model.
Understanding unattached boundary conditions
Boundary conditions can become unattached in a number of ways:
Geometry-based boundary conditions can become unattached when the master or idealized part is modified in a way that removes the corresponding geometry feature. For example, if you constrain the edge of a fillet face, and subsequently remove that fillet, the boundary condition becomes unattached.
FE-based boundary conditions can become unattached when the FEM part is remeshed.
Boundary conditions imported using Import Simulation Entities may be unattached if the software cannot match the source and target simulations. For more information about reattachment when importing Simulation objects, see Correspondence checks and reattachment.
In any case, when a boundary condition is shown in the Simulation Navigator as unattached, right-click the boundary condition node and choose Edit. The original dialog box used to create the boundary condition is displayed, with the selection step highlighted. Select the geometry or FE entities to attach the boundary condition to. When you click OK, the boundary condition is reattached with all its original attributes. To include the boundary condition in the active solution, drag it to the appropriate container in the solution.
