Bolt conditions when chaining solutions (Simcenter Samcef)

When you chain solutions that have bolt preloads, these preloads are not automatically transfer from one solution to the solution you chain to: you must manually ensure that these bolts are taken into account in the chaining workflow.

The chaining workflow you must pay attention to

When the active solution is and that you can chain it with a previously computed
Modal Linear Static solution.Non-Linear solution.
Buckling Linear Static solution.
Standalone Buckling Linear Static solution.Non-Linear solution.

One instance of each bolt preload must appear in the current solution

To satisfy the number of nodes and elements in the active solution and in the chained solution of the model, you must ensure that one instance of each different bolt preload you defined is defined in the active solution.

Chaining with a nonlinear: ensuring that the relative displacements in all the bolts are fixed

In a nonlinear solution, you can set a different bolt preload (force or displacement) in each subcase of that nonlinear solution. For more information, see Enabling bolt forces or displacements in subcases (Simcenter Samcef).

When a bolt does not appear in a subcase, the relative displacement of the bolt is fixed in this subcase and the stress in the bolt can vary if external loads or preloads in other bolts are modified.

When you chain the active solution with a previous nonlinear solution, you either:

  • select in the current model the subcase of the nonlinear solution you want to chain with.

  • you specify the Subcase Number of the nonlinear solution you chain with when you refer to a External File that contains the solution.

In any of these choices, you must select a subcase for which all the bolts have their relative displacements fixed and will remain fixed. So, in that subcase and in all the subsequent ones, no bolt can have been loaded.
