Define a thermal load

  1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Thermal Loads .

  2. In the Thermal Loads dialog box, select Heat Load, Heat Flux, or Heat Generation from the Type list.

  3. In the Region group, click Select Object and select the geometry or FE entity for the heat load. If you selected the Heat Load type of thermal load, to define a heat load on a non-geometric element, do the following:In the Region Override group, select the Override Region check box. From the Non-Geometric Element list, select a non-geometric element modeling object, or click Create Modeling Object to create a non-geometric element modeling object.

  4. In the Magnitude group, define the thermal load magnitude as a constant or expression, or as varying with time, temperature, thermal capacitance, or spatially.

  5. (Optional) In the Heater Control group, select the Control Heater check box and define anActive Heater Controller or Thermostat modeling object to control the thermal load in a transient analysis.

  6. (Optional) To apply a thermal load to a specific layer or layers of a region containing multi-layer shell elements, in the Multi-Layer Shells group, select the Specify Layer to Apply to check box and select an option from the Apply to list:Top, Middle, or Bottom applies the load to the top, middle or bottom layer of the multi-layer shell. All applies the load to all layers of the multi-layer shell.Specify applies the load to the layer number you specify.Note: The Top layer is side of the element facing the same direction as the element normal. The Bottom layer is the opposite side and is designated layer 1.

  7. (Optional) For the Heat Load type only, select the Per Element check box to apply the specified load value to each element on the selected geometry.
