2h. Define the additive manufacturing overhang angle.

  1. Select Point on Plane for Base Plate and then specify a point in the plane that represents the base plate where the first layer is built. You can click Point Dialog to specify the point using the Point dialog box, or select the point creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window.

  2. To specify the vector normal to the plane, in the Base Plate Normal Vector subgroup, select Specify Vector and then select the appropriate axis in the displayed triad in the graphics window. You can also click Vector Dialog to specify the vector using the Vector dialog box, or select the vector creation method from the list and then take the appropriate action in the graphics window. The vector should point in the direction in which the layers will be added. To reverse the direction of the vector, click Reverse Direction .

  3. In the Maximum Angle for Overhang box, type the maximum size of the angle between the base plate and the normal vector.Any trusses, protrusions, or slopes created by the optimization process must have angles equal to or less than the specified value. If you omit the maximum overhang angle, you must specify a minimum allowed dimension.

  4. In the Minimum Allowed Dimension box, type the minimum thickness of any portions of the body.If you omit the minimum allowed dimension, you must specify a maximum overhang angle.

  5. Click OK.
