Mapping solution overview (Simcenter Samcef)
With a Mapping solution type, you can use results from a previously computed thermal analysis and map them as thermal loads on zones of a structural model. The thermal and structural meshes can be dissimilar.
In the thermal model, you define Groups of elements as source mapping zones.
You solve the thermal model.
In the structural model, you select the Mapping solution type.By referring to the thermal solution, you can retrieve the source mapping zones as modeling objects. For more information, see Thermal groups in Simcenter Samcef mapping solution.
You define Mapping Target Set constraints to map each source zone modeling object with a selection of target structural nodes or elements. For more details, see Mapping target set (Simcenter Samcef).
You solve the mapping solution. The mapping solution creates an _it3.txt file, which contains the mapping data. You can also view the mapped results in the Post Processing Navigator. For more information on the _it3.txt file, see Mapping results text file (Simcenter Samcef).
In the structural model, you define a new structural solution and activate chaining with the previous mapping solution. The new structural solution uses the mapping results as new thermal loads. For more information, see Chain a new structural solution with a mapping solution (Simcenter Samcef).
You complete the model, solve it, and post-process the results.
Mapping results
You can map Temperature, Degree Of Cure, and Glass Transition Temperature thermal results.
Note:
The Degree Of Cure and Glass Transition Temperature results are automatically generated if the thermal solution model contains Curing materials.
Mapping thermal sources and mechanical targets
Through the Mapping Target Set constraints, you can perform two different mappings.
In the Mapping Target Set for Mechanical Nodes, you can map an External Thermal Group source of 2D or 3D thermal elements to a target selection of structural nodes.
In the Mapping Target Set for Mechanical Shells, you can map an External Thermal Group source of 3D thermal volumes to a target selection of structural shells.
Note:
You cannot map thermal membranes to structural shells.
Mapping an axisymmetric thermal model to a 3D structural one
You can map an axisymmetric thermal model to a 3D structural one: for more information, see Axisymmetric thermal to 3D structural mapping (Simcenter Samcef).
Chaining structural solutions with mapping solutions
With a mapping solution, you can chain a linear static, a modal, a non-linear, buckling, or a standalone buckling solution.
For more information, see Chain a new structural solution with a mapping solution (Simcenter Samcef).
