Margin of safety > Load case sets
Orphan load cases (margin of safety)
Margin of safety solutions create links to results they use. Therefore, if you rename or delete subcases that the margin of safety solution uses as load cases, and you rerun the solution, the links break and the software can no longer access the results it needs to calculate the margin of safety for these load cases. Such load cases are referred to as orphan load cases.
Detecting orphan load cases
The first clue that an orphan load case may exist is the lack of a margin of safety result in the Margin of Safety Results dialog box, in the Margins of Safety table. To verify that an orphan load case exists, in the Load Cases Editor dialog box, display the Orphan column. A selected check box in the Orphan column indicates that the corresponding load case is an orphan load case.
Removing orphan load cases
When an orphan load case exists, in the Load Cases Editor dialog box, the Clean up orphaned load cases command appears. When you select this command, the software does the following:
Removes renamed subcases from any load case sets for which they are a member. The software retains the renamed load case so that under its new name you can add it back into the load case sets from which it was removed, or you can add it to other load case sets.
Removes all deleted subcases in the margin of safety solution.
