Marker plots
A marker plot represents results at nodes or elements using markers that reflect magnitude or direction. Supported markers include cubes, spheres, arrows, and tensor markers. Marker plots are available when you set the color display to contour plot.
Cubes and spheres
Cubes and spheres represent the data magnitude at nodes or element centroids. You can scale the marker to the result value relative to the model size, and you can use the specified color spectrum to represent the result magnitude. Cubes and spheres are especially useful for representing scalar results.

Arrows
Arrows represent vector results. You can display the X, Y, and Z vector components, or you can display the resultant vector of two components in the XY, YZ, or ZX directions. You can also display arrows as magnitude vectors, representing the direction and magnitude of the sum of all three components.
You can display arrow markers as lines or solids:
| Line | Solid |
|---|
You can also display arrow markers as double-headed arrows. A double-sided arrow is the same length as a single-sided arrow but its position is set so its midpoint is located at the start (tail) of a single-headed arrow.

Tensors
Tensor markers are used to represent tensor results. The tensor marker depicts the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the tensor. You can display the normal, principal, or shear components. For normal and principal, you can display more than one component simultaneously. This is particularly helpful when you want to display maximum and minimum principal stresses.

Results type limitations for arrow and tensor plots
Not all results types are supported for arrow and tensor plots:
Arrow plots are supported only for vector data.
Tensor plots are supported only for tensor data.
The Display tab of the Post View dialog box only shows those types of displays available for the results selected in the Result tab of the Post View dialog box. If a display type is not available, change the results selected in the Result tab to the appropriate type.
Animating marker plots across iterations
When animating marker plots across iterations, you can set the display of the markers so their size is static or scaled proportional to result values in other iterations. For more information, see Animating post views.
