Animate time steps or iterations

Use the following steps to animate a selected result across a series of time steps or iterations. For example, you can animate changes in displacement across time steps in a nonlinear solution, or animate the change in design variables across iterations in an optimization solution process. For Simcenter 3D Multiphysics cyclic symmetric results, you can select the harmonic indexes and modes to animate.

Tip:

Use the Save Frames in Memory check box to choose to save frames in memory or load each frame during the animation.

  • If you select the Save Frames in Memory check box, the animations are smoother after the first cycle especially when an animation requires a considerable time to load each frame. Saving frames in memory requires memory.

  • If you clear the Save Frames in Memory check box, the performance of each frame of an animation is based on the time required to load each frame. However, editing and deleting the animation are faster.

  1. In the Post Processing Navigator, select the post view you want to animate. To animate multiple post views, hold Ctrl and click each post view node to select it.

  2. Choose Results tab→Animation group→Animate , or right-click a post view in the Post Processing Navigator and choose Animate.

  3. From the Animate list, select Iterations. When the loaded results contain iterations across mixed domains (as for example, certain Simcenter 3D Multiphysics results), set Iteration Value Type to a single domain type.

  4. From the Start lists, select the time step, iteration, sub iteration, or load case for the first frame of the animation.

  5. From the End lists, select the time step, iteration, sub iteration, or load case for the last frame of the animation.

  6. (Optional) To skip over iterations or time steps, specify a Step value. For example, if you specify a step value of 2, the software animates every other time step or iteration. A step value of 3 animates every third time step or iteration.

  7. Specify the delay between frames in milliseconds. You get a smoother animation with a shorter delay, but the animation plays faster.

  8. (Optional) To set arrows, cubes, or spheres in a marker plot so that their size is scaled proportional to result values in other iterations, select the appropriate change size check box. For example, to set the display for a marker plot with arrows, select the Change size of arrows with iterations check box.

  9. Click Play .The software first generates the individual frames, and then plays the animation.
