Chain a nonlinear analysis with a dynamic response analysis (Simcenter Samcef)

When you chain a nonlinear analysis with a linear transient or linear harmonic one, you must set storage times for the nonlinear subcase that are outside of the range defined in the nonlinear analysis. You can do this by setting the times in the nonlinear subcase, or you can create a Storage modeling object and assign it to the nonlinear subcase. The following procedure sets the times in the nonlinear subcase.

  1. Under the active Nonlinear Analysis solution node, right-click the subcase you want to chain with, and choose Edit.

  2. In the Solution Step dialog box, on the Storage page, from the Parameters list, select Edit.

  3. In the Chaining Parameters group, select the Generate Output for Modal Analysis check box. This creates additional Simcenter Samcef results files that are mandatory for the modal solution.

  4. From the Load Case Definition for Dynamic Response Solution list, select the unit of time.

  5. In the Load Case Definition for Dynamic Response Solution box, add time values that are outside of the time define for the nonlinear computation. For example, if the nonlinear computation is 0 to 10 seconds, you can add any time values that are greater than 10 seconds, such as the following:10.2510.510.75

  6. Click OK.

  7. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the active the dynamic response (linear transient or linear harmonic) solution and choose Edit.

  8. In the Solution dialog box, on the Chaining page, select the Activate Chaining check box.Only the Analysis around the instantaneous configuration is allowed for a dynamic response analysis.

  9. Make sure that the Source Type list is set to Solution, and from the Solution rightmost list, select the nonlinear solution.

  10. From the Solution leftmost list, select the nonlinear subcase for which you set the storage times.

  11. Click OK.
