Define an enforced displacement constraint using magnitude and a single direction

The Magnitude and direction type lets you define an enforced displacement constraint with a magnitude and a single direction.

  1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Enforced Displacement Constraint .

  2. In the Enforced Displacement Constraint dialog box, select Magnitude and Direction from the Type list.

  3. In the Model Objects group, click Select Object and select the geometry or FE entity to which the enforced displacement constraint will be applied.

  4. In the Direction group, select a vector that specifies the direction of the enforced displacement constraint. For more information, see Vector dialog box.

  5. In the Magnitude group, define the enforced displacement constraint magnitude in one of these ways:Select Expression to use a constant value or expression to define the magnitude. For more information, see Expressions. Select Field to define enforced displacement constraint magnitude that varies with frequency, time, or temperature. For more information, see Using fields and expressions to define boundary conditions.

  6. (Optional) In the Distribution group, select the method for distributing the enforced displacement constraint.Select Constant to apply the magnitude as a constant value.Select Spatial to use a unitless field to map the magnitude to the nodes. For more information, see Using fields and expressions to define boundary conditions.

  7. Click OK.The constraint is applied to the model.
