Create a new Simulation file

You can create a Simulation file by itself. When you do so:

  • You have more control over how Simulation files are named.

  • The Simulation file must reference an existing FEM file. You can associate multiple Simulation files with a given FEM part.

Follow these steps.

  1. Open the New dialog box by doing one of the following:Right-click the FEM file in the Simulation Navigator, and choose New Simulation.Right-click the FEM file in the Simulation File View subpanel of the Simulation Navigator, and choose New Simulation.Choose MenuFileNew.Choose File tab→New .

  2. In the New dialog box, ensure that the Simulation tab is selected. Select a Simulation template.

  3. Enter a unique file name in the File Name field.Note: You must enter a unique name for the file. You cannot create a Simulation file with the same name as the corresponding part file, for example.

  4. If necessary, click Change to change the directory where the new file is stored.

  5. Click OK.The New Simulation dialog box is displayed.

  6. Select a layer to place the simulation on:Work places the simulation on the current work layer.Use Original places the simulation on the same layer as the FEM it is associated with.

  7. (Optional) Enter a description of the Simulation file.

  8. Click OK.The software names and creates the Simulation file. The software then immediately prompts you to create a solution. You can either create the solution, or wait until later to create one or more solutions. The new Simulation is displayed in the Graphics window. The Simulation Navigator displays the new Simulation file, the FEM file, and the new solution. It also includes containers for boundary conditions and entities such as coordinate systems or groups. mypart_sim1.sim mypart_fem1.fem CSYS Groups DOFSets Regions Fields Simulation Object Container Load Container Constraint Container Solution 1 Simulation Objects Constraints Subcase – Static Loads 1 Loads
