Export a material to a custom material library

  1. Choose Home tab→Properties group→MoreManage Library Materials.

  2. In the Material List, select the source of materials to display in the material list.Preferred Material — Displays the preferred material for the active FEM or part file.Note: Available when a preferred material is specified for the FEM or part file. For more information, see Specify a preferred material for a part or FEM.Library Materials — Displays the materials in the Default Material Library, Site MatML Library, and/or User MatML Library, depending on the check boxes you select in the Libraries subgroup.Local Materials — Displays the materials that are assigned directly to your FEMs or part files.

  3. In the Materials list, right-click the material to export and choose Export Material(s) to a Library.

  4. In the Export Material(s) To Library dialog box, select one of the following to export the material definition:Single MatML FileClick Browse and browse to the MatML XML library file in which to insert the new material definition. Or, to create a new library file, type the path and file name of the new file.Note: If you select an existing library file, when you click OK in the Target Material Library file dialog box, the software prompts you to replace the existing library file. When you click Yes at this prompt, your existing materials are not replaced. Instead, the software appends the new material definition to the existing library file.Directory of MatML FilesClick Browse and browse to the MatML XML library directory in which to insert the new material definition in a new file, and click OK in the Target Material Library Directory dialog box. Or, to create a new library directory, type the path of the new directory.Note: When the Update Library Reference on Exported Materials check box is selected, the software adds the name of the target library file to the material record. The reference to the target library file appears in the Library column in the dialog box.

  5. Click OK to export the material definition.
