Edit a field

Because a field may be reused in multiple boundary conditions, you cannot edit the field when you edit a boundary condition. You also cannot edit fields that are used to define material properties.

The types of edits you can make to a field depend on the field type. In general, you can always edit the name, description, label, and, if applicable, the spatial map of a field. However, other attributes of a field may not be editable. For example, you cannot edit the domains of reference fields, even though they are editable in table fields and formula fields.

Special editing options are available for certain types of fields. For example, if a table field was imported from an external file, you can open the external file for editing and reload the tabular data directly from the Table Field dialog box. For other special editing options, see:
