Methods for buckling of orthotropic laminates
The software supports three built-in methods that allow you to evaluate the margin of safety against buckling for rectangular orthotropic laminate plates subject to compressive and shear loads.
When you use these methods, you must define the physical dimensions of the plate, how the edges of the plate are supported, the elastic properties of the laminate, and so on.
You specify the physical dimensions and support conditions from the Calculation Creation dialog box.
You define the laminate with the options available in the Laminate Extraction dialog box.For more information on how to extract elastic properties from laminates, see Laminate extraction.
The following table shows the support conditions that are available for each method.
| Method | Support condition options | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SSSS (1) | CSCS (2) | SCSC (3) | CCCC (4) | SFSS (5) | |
| Longitudinal compression only | X | X | X | X | X |
| In-plane shear only | X | X | X | ||
| Combined longitudinal compression and in-plane shear | X | X | X | ||
| (1) All edges are simply supported. (2) Edges subject to compressive load are fixed and the other edges are simply supported. Fixed is also referred to as clamped, cantilever supported, wall mounted, and so on. (3) Edges subject to compressive load are simply supported and the other edges are fixed. (4) All edges are fixed. (5) Edges subject to compressive load are simply supported, one of the other edges is simply supported, and the other edge is free. |
