Extracting elements from a mesh
The Element Extract command allows you to move selected elements out of an existing mesh into a new mesh. The mesh associated data and display properties of the original mesh are preserved in the extracted mesh.
You can extract elements from a mesh and create a new mesh collector to apply different physical or material properties to selected elements. When working with imported meshes, you can extract elements to separate meshes in order to better organize and manage your model.
The image shows a simple tool bit. Elements from the blade tip have been extracted, and the material properties modified to increase hardness.
When you extract elements from a mesh, the original mesh is locked. If you unlock the mesh and update it, the original mesh is restored and the extracted mesh is empty. For more information, see Locking and unlocking a mesh.
