Enforced axial deformations for 1D elements (Nastran)
In the Nastran environment, you can use the 1D Axial Deformation command to apply an enforced axial deformation (in units of length) to CBAR, CBEAM, CONROD, CROD, and CTUBE type elements. Enforced deformations are useful, for example, when you analyze misfit or misalignment conditions in structures.
The 1D Axial Deformation command does not enforce a strain or apply an actual extensional length to the 1D element. Rather, it applies a force to the element that produces the specified extension if that element is free to expand without generating internal forces. The software adds the computed force to the other forces in your model. Since most elements in a model are not free to expand, the extension value that you specify in the 1D Axial Deformation dialog box may not be achieved.
The 1D Axial Deformation command corresponds to the Nastran DEFORM bulk data entry.

Supported solution sequences
The DEFORM entry is applicable in linear statics, inertia relief, differential stiffness, and buckling analyses. Therefore, you can use the 1D Axial Deformation command in solutions 101, 105, and 200 in Pre/Post.
Axial deformation load example
The following graphic shows an example of an axial deformation load. (A) shows the 1D Axial Deformation load that was defined on each of the 1D bar elements.
(B) shows the nodal displacement results. Notice the deformation that occurs at the bar element locations.
