Optimizing the display performance for large models

Some models contain a large number of coordinate systems and/or boundary conditions, or a mesh containing many elements. This can result in slower performance when you import, open, zoom, pan, rotate, or navigate the model. The following guidelines help you to ensure a good balance between display quality and performance when working with large models.

  • Optimize coordinate systems settings. When working with a model containing more than 50 coordinate systems, you may see the Graphics Performance prompt asking if you want to optimize the CSYS (coordinate systems) settings. Click Yes. Clicking Yes means the size of the coordinate system displays and when they are visible in the part model are determined automatically to optimize graphics performance. This clears the Show Through and Fixed Size on Screen check boxes in Customer Defaults and remains in effect for the part unless you select these check boxes again.

  • Reduce the level of detail for Moving Frames and Still Frames using the Detail sliders in Visualization Preferences. The Detail sliders control the amount of detail in the mesh display such as the coordinate system, element labels, and element edges. Moving FramesControls the level of detail displayed for the model when rotating, zooming and panning the display.Still FramesControls the level of detail for the stationary display of the model. For more information, see Reduce the level of detail for large models.

  • Reduce the size of boundary condition symbols. For more information, see Displaying boundary conditions.

  • Adjust the customer default coordinate systems settings to control the coordinate system display and determine its size. Choose File tab→UtilitiesCustomer DefaultsGatewayVisualizationView/Screen tab→CSYS Display Properties group.
