Excluding surfaces from general contacts (Abaqus)
When you define a General Contact simulation object, you can create a Contact Exclusion simulation object to define the pairs of surfaces or self-contacting surface that should not contact or interact during the analysis. Excluding surfaces helps to ensure that there are no unreasonable or impossible contact interactions.
Types of contact exclusions
Three types of contact exclusions are available in the Contact Exclusion dialog box you create a Contact Exclusion simulation object:
Surface Pair Contact Exclusion
Ignores contact between specified surface pairs. For example, to avoid physically unreasonable contact interactions and improve computational performance, exclude parts of the model that are not likely to interact.
Self-Contact Surface Exclusion
Excludes contact between the selected surface and itself.
Surface to Default All-Inclusive Surface Contact Exclusion
Ignores contact between the all-inclusive, automatically generated surface and the selected surface.
Associated Abaqus keywords
The options in the Contact Exclusion dialog box correspond to parameters for the Abaqus *CONTACT EXCLUSIONS and *SURFACE keywords.
